Brick Dome

Project: Catalan vaulted structure for William Paton Community Garden
Location: William Paton Community Garden, Leslie Road, London, E16 6AZ
Client: Liz Shearer: Newham Council Project Officer, Sara Braithwaite – WPCG
Facilitators: Jim Ross, Michael Ramage (Cambridge university) and Phil Cooper Engineer, with Alan Chandler

The one acre site is currently in the process of being set up as a community garden, having been left abandoned for several years. The group will propose a domed structure and suggest up to three locations for the structure on the site from which the local residents will select one. The structure will act as a space where the residents and local people can come together to socialise and meet, whilst also providing shelter and giving the residents somewhere to go to take a break from gardening. In essence, it will encourage social interaction and dialogue to take place between the residents.
